Featured Associate: Florida Academy of PAs

In 1974 Florida graduated its first PA students from the University of Florida College of Medicine/Santa Fe Community College Physician Assistant. That same year, the Florida Academy of PAs (FAPA) was formed with 40 members.

FAPA took an active role in lobbying for PA legislation, winning legislative funding for PA schools, the formation of a PA Advisory Committee, the fight to have Foreign Medical Graduates NOT be able to practice as PAs, the passing of PA prescription rights, and many more. FAPA continues to be an advocate for all practicing PAs in the state of Florida.

FAPA received the first AAPA Chapter Excellence Award in 1994 due to its wonderful dedication to its constituents. In 2002 they received the First Place award in the Constituent Organization Excellence Award competition by the AAPA for the extra large sized category of constituent organizations and won the award again in 2003, 2007, and 2010.

Today, the Florida Academy continues to help pass legislation that improves the ability of Floridian PAs to help their patients and to practice medicine.
