Preliminary discussions regarding the development of a PA program began within the School of Science in mid-2011.  In line with the College’s mission and values, and through a rigorous and strategic planning process, a strong proposal for a Physician Assistant Program was developed in 2012.  In September 2015, ARC-PA granted Marist “accreditation-provisional status” and the first class was seated in May 2016.

The Physician Assistant program takes advantage of a large and growing need for physician assistants (PAs) while being consistent with the mission and values of the College and the School of Science by providing a skills-oriented education to graduate matriculants to have developed the skills, intellect, and character to be ethical PAs anywhere in the world.

The Marist College Physician Assistant Program is committed to graduating entry-level, competent healthcare providers trained to practice ethically and culturally sensitive medicine in a team environment, and who will be life-long learners with a commitment to community service and the overall success of the profession.

The Master of Science-Physician Assistant Studies is a 24-month, full-time program designed to prepare students for the Physician Assistant National Certification Examination and for a successful career as a physician assistant.  The didactic phase consists of twelve (12) months for classroom study, and the clinical phase consists of the other twelve (12) months for supervised clinical experiences in the subsequent nine (9) areas.  Students learn how to deliver healthcare in a variety of settings across the lifespan.  In addition, the ethical responsibilities of the profession, behavioral aspects of health, roles and responsibilities of the physician assistant, and global aspects of health are covered.

Marist College’s School of Science has long maintained relationships with regional hospitals and healthcare providers to ensure high-quality clinical experience for our students.
