Jason Prevelige, DMSc, MBA, PA-C, DFAAPA, has spent his career with a long-time focus on advocacy for advancing the PA profession. Almost immediately after graduation, he became involved in the legislative committee of the Connecticut Academy of PAs (ConnAPA). His focus then and now was the modernization of the PA practice act. When he became involved with the board of directors of the AAPA, he continued his focus on advocacy. As AAPA president, he was called upon to be the profession’s voice, advancing the AAPA’s goals of Optimal Team Practice (OTP) as well as its title change – from physician assistant to physician associate. While president he also worked to launch a campaign to speak out against opponents of PA practice modernization, calling for collaboration in the effort to enhance patient access to care and was a voice calling for reforms to ensure the safety of healthcare workers. Prevelige is also focused on building PA student interest in advocacy and in developing their skills to promote the profession’s goals.
Born in Connecticut, Prevelige moved to South Florida early in life, growing up in Royal Palm Beach, Florida where he enjoyed swimming, playing football and hockey. He later moved back to Connecticut for his undergraduate studies at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut. He has called Fairfield his home ever since.
Prevelige is a graduate of the Quinnipiac University PA Program (2009). Hoping to stay in Connecticut for PA school, he was most influenced by the current students at the time who hosted the interviewees the night before. That solidified his desire to attend Quinnipiac. It was later where he truly appreciated what a great decision it was, as he had the opportunity to be influenced and mentored by many leaders of the PA profession including his program director, Cynthia Booth Lord, William Kohlhepp, Patrick Killeen and so many others.
Prevelige began his PA career in 2009 working in the St. Mary’s Hospital Emergency Department, Waterbury, Connecticut. The following year he took a second position at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Hartford, Connecticut, working in the pediatric hospital medicine, NICU, and urgent care departments. Building on his pre-PA role as a counselor at Liberation Programs, a substance use disorder treatment clinic in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Prevelige took on a third role when he began working at that site as a PA.
Due to his leadership skills, Jason Prevelige rose to the position of lead advanced practice provider (APP) for Envision Physician Services at St. Mary’s Hospital, Emergency Department, Waterbury, Connecticut (2012-2021). When St. Mary’s became part of Trinity Health of New England, he was named associate APP leader for the St. Mary’s Hospital Emergency Department (2021-2025). When the department was transitioned to Vituity, he was retained as part of the site leadership team and currently serves as the APP lead (2025-Present).
Early in his clinical career, Prevelige began teaching pediatrics and emergency medicine as part of the adjunct faculty for the Sacred Heart University Physician Associate Program in Fairfield, CT (2017 – present). He was appointed as a clinical affiliate assistant professor in the School of Health Sciences, Quinnipiac University, Hamden, CT, where he teaches PA history and professionalism (2024-present). He was an advisory committee member for the Quinnipiac PA Program and was a founding advisory committee member for both Sacred Heart University PA Program and University of Saint Joseph PA Program in Hartford, CT. He most recently served Sacred Heart University on the Doctor of Medical Science Development Committee.
Jason Prevelige holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut (2004). He also holds a Master of Business Administration in the healthcare management track from Quinnipiac University – School of Business (2021). He earned a Doctor of Medical Science in the clinical leadership track from the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California (2023). His doctorate level research focused on methods and variability in PA student advocacy education.
Shortly after graduation, Prevelige began his involvement in the Connecticut Academy of PAs (ConnAPA). Recognizing his leadership potential, he was elected to the ConnAPA board as regional director (2011-2012), then vice-president (2012-2014). He served for two years as president (2015-2017) and then an additional year as immediate past president (2017-2018). He continued on the board as director at large (2018-2019 and 2020-2022). In addition to his board-level involvement, Prevelige chaired a number of ConnAPA committees: the Education and Conference Committee (2012-2014); the Policy & Procedures/Bylaws Committee (2017-2018 and 2021-2024); and the Legislative Committee (2018-Present). He also served on the Advocacy Committee (2021-2023) for the Society of Emergency Medicine PAs (SEMPA).
Prevelige also served ConnAPA as a delegate to the AAPA House of Delegates (HOD) of the American Academy of PAs (AAPA) (2014-2023). He was very active in the HOD, serving on a reference committee (2019) and then chairing reference committees in 2021, 2022 and 2023. He also served the HOD as a member of the Credentialling Committee (2020-2021) and on the HP/HX Task Force (2022-2023), whose objective was to organize and review the AAPA House Policies.
Prevelige’s service to the AAPA shifted when he was asked to chair the Early Career PA Commission (2017-2019). He was then elected as director at large (2019-2020). After that term ended, he chaired the Judicial Affairs Commission (2021-2023). He was then elected in 2023 to serve as AAPA president-elect and then president and chair of the board of directors (2024-2025), followed by a year as immediate past president (2025-2026).
