Olushola Ilogho, DMSc, MPA, PA-C, represents a forward-thinking generation of physician associates whose impact extends well beyond the bedside. As a hospitalist PA and a respected PA advocacy leader, Ilogho has emerged as a dynamic force in clinical excellence, education, and systems-level improvement, with a deep commitment to advancing patient care, empowering healthcare teams, and shaping the future of the PA profession through mentorship and leadership. With experience spanning hospital medicine, quality and safety initiatives, and interprofessional education, Ilogho is known for her ability to bridge frontline clinical insight with strategic vision, playing an active role on the Sentara Medical Group Quality and Safety Advisory Board Committee to drive initiatives that enhance patient outcomes while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Path to Medicine and Leadership
Olushola Ilogho first discovered the physician associate (PA) profession while exploring different healthcare career paths. In Nigeria, where she was raised, she had seen firsthand what a lack of access to health care can cause and she wanted to make an impact. When she was a teenager, she would move to Michigan to join her immediate family. While in Michigan, she worked at an internal medicine clinic, where she collaborated with two PAs who impressed her by practicing with a high level of autonomy while maintaining a strong work-life balance. This experience confirmed for her that becoming a PA was the right career choice. She would later create the Pre-Physician Assistant Society at her undergraduate alma mater, Wayne State University (WSU) in Detroit, MI, to help other students who were interested in the PA profession.
Education and Clinical Practice
After graduating from WSU with an undergraduate degree in psychology, Ilogho was accepted to the PA program at Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) in Norfolk, VA and completed that program in 2017. Since graduation, she has practiced in a variety of clinical roles in Virginia, mainly in hospital medicine, emergency medicine and primary care. Since 2023, she has worked at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital as a hospitalist PA. Ilogho’s latest academic achievement was receiving her DMSc degree from the University of Lynchburg with a focus on administrative medicine in late 2025.
Leadership and PA Advocacy
Ilogho has served on the advanced practice practitioner (APP) council and the board advisory committee for quality and safety for the Sentara Medical Group. On the APP Council, Ilogho has served as the PA Legislative Representative on the legislative committee. She helped lead the APP mentorship program for Hospital medicine in its first phase at her institution and is a part of the Hospital Medicine High Performance Teams. She maintains a faculty appointment as assistant professor at the EVMS School of Health Professions providing education and preceptorship to PA students.
Ilogho has been a member of the AAPA and the Virginia Academy of PAs since 2018. She has served in the Virginia Academy of PAs as chair of the Advocacy and Outreach Committee and as a delegate to the AAPA House of Delegates. She has also served on the Society of Hospital Medicine’s executive board as the APP representative for the Hampton Roads Chapter, which covers regions in Virginia and North Carolina. For the Virginia Association of Minority PAs, she has been the chair of the education committee, president and vice president. Her other organization memberships include the Academy of Doctoral PAs, and, most recently, the American College of Healthcare Executives.
