LTC Avery J. Carney, SP, PA-C, MPAS

LTC Avery J. Carney currently serves as the Commander of United States Army Health Clinic (USAHC) in Grafenwoehr, Germany.

He entered military service in 1996 at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.  After completing Initial Entry Training (IET) and Advanced Industry Training (AIT) he served in the Indiana Army National Guard as a Engineer Heavy Equipment Operator and attained the rank of Sergeant prior to receiving his commission through ROTC.

LTC Carney graduated from Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis (IUPUI), with a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy.  He was commissioned in 2002 as a 2LT in the Medical Service Corps.  After completing the AMEDD Office Basic Course, he was branch transferred into the Medical Specialist Corps and assigned as a staff therapist to Womack Army Medical Center, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

His other assignments include:  Prevention Team Officer in Charge (OIC), 528th Medical Detachment, Combat Stress Control (CSC) in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 04-06; Commander, 528th Medical Detachment (CSC), Fort Bragg, NC; Commander, 601st   Medical Company (Area Support) in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 08-10; Battalion Physician Assistant, 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade (BDE), 4th ID, Fort Carson, CO; Brigade Physician Assistant, 1st BDE, 4th ID in support of Operation Spartan Shield 2013, Kuwait; Commander, 98th Medical Detachment (CSC), Joint Base Lewis McChord, WA; Division Physician Assistant, 4th ID, Fort Carson, CO; Atlantic Resolve Surgeon, 4th ID Mission Command Element (MCE) 2017 Poznan, Poland; Chief, Department of Medical Readiness and Interservice Physician Assistant Program (IPAP) Phase II Coordinator, Evans Army Community Hospital, Fort Carson, CO; and Division Surgeon, 4th ID, Fort Carson, CO.

LTC Carney’s Professional Military Education includes Command General Staff College, the Inter-service Physician Assistant Program (IPAP), and the Army Medical Department (AMEDD) Executive Skills Course.

LTC Carney’s awards include the Bronze Star Medal (1 OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (4 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (5 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (2OLC), Meritorious Unit Citation (1 OLC), Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and Service Medals, Overseas Service Ribbon (3 awards) , Army Reserve Components Overseas Training Ribbon, Combat Action Badge, Expert Field Medical Badge, and the Parachutist Badge.  He is a member of the Order of Military Medical Merit.

LTC Carney has been married to his spouse for 18 years and they have three children.
