LTC Sharon D. Denson, SP, PA-C, DMSc, MPAS

LTC Sharon D. Denson currently serves as the Medical Command Allied Health Policy Officer and 65D Professional Filler System Manager in G 3/5/7, Clinical Policy Services, Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

She enlisted in the Army in 1989 and served 9 years as a 92A ( Automated Logistics Specialists). She was a Distinguished Honor Graduate in Army Advanced Individual Training (AIT), inducted into the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club in 1997, and achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class before attending the Interservice Physician Assistant Program (IPAP) at Fort Sam Houston in 1999.

LTC Denson received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 2003 and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant (2LT) in the Army Medical Specialist Corps. She deployed immediately after graduation to Iraq with Charlie Company, 204th Forward Support Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division where she often rotated forward to support the maneuver units. After redeployment in 2004, LTC Denson completed a Master of Science Degree in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Nebraska. She received a Doctorate of Medical Science (DMSc) Degree from the University of Lynchburg in September 2020.

She deployed again in 2005 with the 4th Infantry Division (4ID) as the Senior Medical Officer. After two combat tours she was reassigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC), 4th Sustainment Brigade (BDE), 4ID as BDE Surgeon and Platoon Leader from 2007-2011. She was the BDE PA with 15th Sustainment BDE, 1st Armored Division in El Paso, Texas from 2011-2013. She served on the Army Staff as a Detailed Inspector General in the Pentagon from 2013-2016. LTC Denson was selected to serve as Aide-de-Camp and Executive Assistant to the Army Inspector General for 15 months. She was reassigned to Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) and served as Assistant Officer in Charge (OIC) of the Internal Medicine Clinic. She was also the IMC Virtual Health Program Manager, Assistant IPAP Phase II Clinical Coordinator, and Adjunct Professor prior to her current position.

LTC Denson’s military education includes IPAP, AMEDD Basic and Advance Courses, Combat Casualty Care Course, Tactical Combat Medical Course, IG Course, Intermediate Level Education, Basic Healthcare Administrator Course and JMESI – DHA Intermediate Executive Skills Course.

Some of her awards and decorations include two Bronze Star Medals, four Meritorious Service Medals, Army Staff Identification Badge, Combat Medic Badge, the AMEDD Order of Military Medical Merit and the Army’s Surgeon General 9A Proficiency Designator.

LTC Denson is Membership Director for the Society of Army Physician Assistants. She’s East Texas Military Attaché for Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated and Corresponding Secretary for Alpha Pi Zeta in San Antonio. She’s an active member of the Junior League of San Antonio and named Junior League of San Antonio (JLSA) ”New Member of the Year” for 2019.

LTC Denson has been married  to her spouse for 16 years and they have four daughters and one grandson.
