Ryan Baldeo, MPAS, MSPC, PA-C, FAAHPM, In addition to beginning his undergraduate studies at the University of Florida, also began his first position as an administrative assistant at Shands Hospital in the Division of Adult Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine. It was during this time that he first learned of and worked with a PA, Sally Thompson, who markedly impacted his decision to pursue his graduate studies and career goals as a PA. As an administrative assistant, he fielded patient calls and became impressed that the majority of patients would seek guidance from Sally and with her bedside manner and ability to connect with them. As he explored his goal of a career in healthcare, he identified wanting to provide compassionate and comprehensive care in a manner like what he witnessed.

After graduating from the University of Florida with an undergraduate degree in anthropology, Baldeo enrolled in the PA program at the University of Florida and graduated in 2015. He earned an additional master’s degree in palliative care from the University of Maryland, Baltimore, in 2020 and is currently enrolled in a doctoral (PhD) program in palliative care (anticipated graduation in 2026) also from that university. His first clinical position was at the Mayo Clinic in Mankato, MN where he began his work in palliative medicine. In 2019, he moved from community practice to academic medicine at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago where he remained until 2022 when he moved again to the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, AZ. In addition to working clinically in his specialty of palliative medicine, Baldeo has led curriculum development in the specialty for advance practice clinicians. He also serves as the emergency palliative medicine clinician lead for the institution. In all three of these professional settings, Baldeo was clinical coordinator for rotations in palliative medicine for PA students and is currently the assistant director for the NP/PA Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship at Mayo.

Since 2016, Ryan Baldeo has been actively involved with the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (where he serves as chair of the PA Special Interest Group), PAs in Hospice and Palliative Medicine (where he currently serves as president) and the National Coalition of Hospice and Palliative Care. He has also served as a PA representative to a variety of other national palliative medicine organizations. Baldeo has held academic ranks in palliative medicine at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science as instructor (2019), assistant professor (2023) and Senior Fellow of Excellence in Administration and Leadership (2025). In addition, since 2021 he has served as the chair of the Certificate of Added Qualifications (CAQ) in Palliative Medicine and Hospice Care exam development team for the NCCPA where he also has served as a PA Ambassador since 2024.

Baldeo’s passion for his chosen field is exemplified by his authorship of numerous articles and abstracts in various peer-reviewed journals and two book chapters. He has presented posters at a variety of professional conferences and serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Palliative Medicine. He has also presented extensively on the topic of palliative medicine at national, regional and institutional meetings and conferences. Baldeo has received multiple awards from the Mayo Clinic and Rush University and was the first PA to be awarded the designation of Fellow (FAAHPM) of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. His research activities in his specialty include work with NCCPA, Mayo Clinic (MN and AZ) and Rush University Medical Center.

In addition to certification by the NCCPA, Baldeo holds active licenses in CA, AZ and IL.

Outside of his passion for working in palliative care, Baldeo has stayed true to his love of anthropology and human culture. He strives to enjoy one international vacation per year for immersion into alternate cultural experiences as well as various smaller trips for rest and relaxation. Baldeo enjoys spending quality time in new countries, new experiences and with loved ones.
