MAJ Ashely N. Wheeler

MAJ Ashely N. Wheeler serves as the Commander of the 555th Forward Resuscitative Surgical Detachment at Fort Hood, Texas. She entered active duty as a Medical Service Officer after commissioning from the United States Military Academy (USMA) on May 21, 2011.

From 2011 to 2015, she was assigned to the 44th Medical Brigade at Fort Bragg, NC. While in the 44th Medical Brigade, MAJ Wheeler served as an Evacuation Platoon Leader in addition to a Detachment and Company element Executive Officer prior to her acceptance into the Interservice Physician Assistant Program (IPAP) in 2015.

Upon graduation from Phase II of IPAP in October 2017, MAJ Wheeler served as the Battalion PA for 2nd Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division and as an Aeromedical PA (APA) for the 615th Aviation Support Battalion and the 1st Battalion, 227th Aviation Regiment, 1st Air Cavalry Brigade.

MAJ Wheeler deployed as a Battalion PA with the 2-12 CAV ISO Operation Atlantic Resolve in Poland and Germany. She also deployed with the 1-227 Aviation Regiment serving as the Task Force Attack APA ISO Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR), Iraq/Syria. MAJ Wheeler completed her Doctor of Medical Science degree through the University of Lynchburg in January 2023, which she initiated while deployed ISO OIR.

MAJ Wheeler currently serves as a Detachment Commander for the 555th Forward Resuscitative Surgical Detachment, 9th Hospital Center, 1st Medical Brigade. During her command tenure, she has ensured her unit’s readiness while on a Contingency Response Force mission. MAJ Wheeler and her unit will participate in trauma training opportunities around the United State in preparation for their deployment ISO Operation Inherent Resolve in 2024.

MAJ Wheeler’s military education includes IPAP, AMEDD CCC, TCMC, US Army Flight Surgeon Primary Course, Military Master Gunner Course, Sexual Assault Medical Forensic Examiner Course, Company Commander First Sergeant Pre-Command Course.

MAJ Wheeler’s awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (3), Army Commendation Medal with “C” device, Army Achievement Medal (4), Certification of Achievement (3) Armed Forces Service Medal, Expert Field Medical Badge, Air Assault Badge, Flight Surgeon Badge.

MAJ Wheeler is married to her long time best friend and USMA classmate. They have two beautiful boy/girl twins that complete their family and bring endless joy to their lives.
