Morton A. Diamond, MD

Raised in rural upstate New York, Morton A. Diamond, MD (1938-2021 ) received his undergraduate degree at Cornell University and his MD at the State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center. He completed his residency training in internal medicine and fellowship in cardiology at Indiana University Medical Center.

In 1994, after years of clinical cardiology practice in Hollywood, FL, he became the full-time medical director of the Nova Southeastern University Physician Assistant Program, Fort Lauderdale. Since his days as a member of the Committee on Allied Health of the American College of Cardiology, he continued to promote the role of physician assistants in treatment of patients who have cardiovascular disease throughout his career.

Dr. Diamond was the recipient of several honors, including Outstanding PA Faculty Member of the Year. He was a member of Pi Alpha, the Physician Assistant National Honor Society, as well as Alpha Eta, the National Honor Society for the Allied Health Professions. He was honored in 2012 as the College of Health Care Sciences’ Distinguished Professor of the Year.

His published research included neurogenic orthostatic hypotension, echocardiography, and valvular heart disease. He held Fellowships in the American College of Cardiology (Emeritus), American College of Physicians, and American Heart Association (Council on Clinical Cardiology and the Council on Stroke). He was the sole author of three books: Davis’s PA Exam Review: Focused Review for the PANCE and PANRE (1st and 2nd editions) and Medical Insights: From Classroom to Patient. He was the co-founder of the Association of Physician Assistants in Cardiology. Dr. Diamond presented over 75 medical lectures at state and national PA meetings.

He and his wife, had three children and three grandchildren. Dr. Diamond served as a battalion medical officer in Vietnam.

Dr. Diamond passed away on December 16, 2021.
